1) To kickstart, could you share about your current role, what the company does and a bit about your career background?

I work at Coinhako, a Singapore grown and market leading platform for access to digital assets in Asia, as the VP of Marketing & Communications – where I manage growth and marketing strategies, and partnerships.

I was one of the first hires at Coinhako, where I built from scratch a dynamic multi-function marketing and communications department that is responsible for propelling Coinhako into a top financial app in Singapore. I currently manage a growing team of 15 marketers and our platform currently hosts over 400,000 users in across nation state, where we provide multi-faceted digital asset services for the retail, institutional and high net worth cryptocurrency owners.

Prior to joining the digital assets space, I was exposed to the asset management and private banking spaces.

2) Can you describe what your typical workday looks like?

A typical workday for me would start with checking in on business and marketing numbers, reviewing campaigns, marketing strategies, and ensuring that I set the right direction for the marketing team to make an impact in the company. I also have regular sync-ups with our product teams, as product growth and success is very crucial to our company’s success.

As a department head, I also take pride in ensuring my team members fulfill their potential and I greatly value open communications to achieve this. While I really enjoy writing newsletters and blog articles, that’s mostly a luxury for me nowadays.

3) What does personal growth mean to you?

Personal growth for me means constantly putting myself in uncharted situations and pushing myself to achieve excellence.

4) Is there a habit you consciously exercise to ensure you achieve your ideal personal growth?

Constant learning and being unafraid to exercise my curiosities are the attributes that have propelled me over the years. A good example would be my early days at Coinhako where I started with very minimal knowledge of the industry. During those years, I constantly pushed myself to be out there to learn from some of the best in the industry and I put in a lot of extra hours to ensure I did not lag behind my peers and competition.

Today, I’m glad I embarked on this journey and I hope that I can continue uncovering more insights in the world of business, marketing and digital assets.

5) What does it mean to grow in your career? How do you measure your career growth?

Meaningful career growth for me is when I can constantly feel that I am making new strides and learning new things in my professional and personal capacity.

How I usually view this is to look back to the exact same time a year ago and see what has changed. If I am in a better position than I was previously, it gives me the sense that I have been progressing. Alignment with my long term personal goals would also be key in ensuring I am setting the right course for myself.

6) Aside from your full-time job, is there anything else you like to do outside work?

I would say I am a travel addict. I have traveled to 34 countries till date and I am hoping to reach 40 countries very soon.

Also, I’m passionate about music and culture, and I find it fascinating how NFTs have been bridging the aforementioned topics with finance, allowing me to work on my passions while being busy at work.

7) Are there any books, podcasts or apps that have been helpful for your growth?

I believe that the best marketers are ones who know how to create campaigns and strategies that can impact businesses. I really enjoy watching business-focused podcasts like the ‘All-in podcast’ on YouTube, which features a weekly panel of some of the most proven names in the world of business, to keep up with the latest trends in the market.

Other than that, I really enjoy personal development and management books to give me a better perspective on how to manage my time efficiently. I am currently reading a book called ‘Be The Lion’ that explains the various methodologies to better manage your time and live life more efficiently. It’s been a great read so far and I highly recommend that book.

8) Any tips you’d like to share for those who are looking to venture into similar roles?

If you are still early in your career, having a focus on learning and gaining knowledge can be more valuable in the long-term. I also firmly believe that if you want to be successful in marketing, you need to break off the notion that marketing is all about developing creative campaigns. Instead, one should focus on how to develop campaigns and strategies that can impact business growth in a positive manner.

Another tip that I find essential is, never be complacent. No matter how far you’ve come in life, constant learning and improvement is what’s key to sustaining success, be it in your personal development or career progression.

9) Finally, what is the one quote you always live by?

“I think it's very important to have a feedback loop, where you're constantly thinking about what you've done and how you could be doing it better. I think that's the single best piece of advice: constantly think about how you could be doing things better and question yourself.” – Elon Musk
