1) To kickstart, could you share about your current role, what the company does and a bit about your career background?

Couldn’t be more happy to share my career learnings here! Thanks for the opportunity, Marcella, wonderful platform.

I’m currently working as a senior account executive at one of the largest media tech companies for rising tech startups in Asia, e27.co. The company’s mission is to give equal chance to succeed for entrepreneurs/ startup founders by giving them the right tools, through equipping them with the right network to grow. They have 2,000 investors & 34,000+ startups as part of the power network missioning to empower the growth startups ecosystem in the Asia Pacific.

As I am based in Indonesia, I focus more on searching & opening up opportunities to be able to support startups ecosystem key players in Indonesia. On the other hand, am also supporting the e27 engage and business development team in assisting inbound and outbound inquiry from clients across APAC which includes media engagements, e27 Pro Plus Membership, and the most recent exciting part is to search for sponsorship partners in our upcoming offline event - ECHELON - The biggest tech conference in Asia which we’ll be having it by this Q4 this year in Singapore. Feel free to LinkedIn DM me to explore opportunities for collab! :)

I started my career young, since I was 17 years old, by volunteering to the first live streaming fashion week in Asia - ‘Digital Fashion Week’ and had 4+ years professional experience working in a digital marketing agency SG-based, focusing on lifestyle clients who held the event. Then I landed into a fashion tech startup as their business development for 2+ years at the same time applying my passion in women empowerment as a CSR lead of one of the largest mobility companies in Indonesia - Bluebird Group, handling their women empowerment focused CSR - Kartini Bluebird. Then, somehow God opened up the doors where it led me to where I am today, where I found my greater purpose in being a fulltime business development in e27 - where I could empower more women to be involved in the tech space as well as applying my passion in tech to give back and contribute to the growth of Indonesia’s startups.

2) Can you describe what your typical workday looks like?

I start my day by doing quiet times reading my Bible, doing my morning pilates routine plus I never forget to do my 10 mins meditation using the CALM app (my fav episode : Mindfulness at Work) to set my mind right at the beginning of the day.

Then I have a quick poached egg for breakfast, protein needed and I am ready to start the day with a huddle virtual meeting with my manager in Singapore and my other colleague in Vietnam, setting our goals and reviewing our OKR growth for the week.

Due to being on the biz dev team, I am mainly in charge of getting more outbound leads through connecting to people on LinkedIn. Arranging and conducting 9 to 10 meetings for the week with startup founders, investors/ venture capital, government agencies and corporates’ marketing managers who are looking to gain their strong presence in the APAC market.

I take a 15 minute break before my lunch time to rest my eyes from the virtual lightscreen. Cause nowadays it’s very easy to get zoom-fatigue.

Then I continue to work. If I'm not conducting a meeting, I usually prepare a proposal for my clients or draft a contract agreement to close the sales cycle of my clients. Then, when the clock hits 6pm, the slack notification goes off, and I am off from work. Am grateful for my company where I now promote a healthy work-life balance and respect our boundaries at work really well.

3) What does personal growth mean to you?

To be in a medium where it gives you space to improve your skills and. character and consistently enables you to learn new little things daily.

4) Is there a habit you consciously exercise to ensure you achieve your ideal personal growth?

I schedule 3 hours every week to set aside for me to work on my personal growth, whether it’s tuning into new things I want to learn, i.e. now am learning Crypto’s/ Web 3 space in youtube or personal growth podcast!

I also keep a post on my computer room screen where I write down 2-3 priority things I would like to grow in & learn, and keep track of it in the next quarter whether I’ve achieved it or not yet. And having a friend who you can be accountable in tracking your growth always works.

5) What does it mean to grow in your career? How do you measure your career growth?

Where you have a little fear / are uncomfortable in doing things in your career which push you to learn new skills are good indications you are growing.

On the other hand, an indication that you are not growing is where you already feel too comfortable, where you are and you see there is no challenge for you to conquer.

6) Aside from your full-time job, is there anything else you like to do outside work?

I started to learn a new sport like Golf; it helps me as a therapy to maintain my calm state of mind and physical coordination.

I’ve been enjoying serving people in my English-speaking young professional ministry @gem.community by helping them in finding their journey to know God deeper through personal Bible study.

I will also be active in applying my skills to Indonesia’s women professionals community called - @womenworksid as their community lead in this near time as a real medium where I could apply my women empowerment passion and calling.

7) Are there any books, podcasts or apps that have been helpful for your growth?

Podcast (personal growth):

  • Think Fast, Talk Smart by Stanford GSB

  • Oprah’s Super Soul by Oprah Winfrey

  • Fight Hustle, End Hurry by John Mark Corner

Podcast (startup tech space):

  • Acquired by Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthai

Meditation App:

  • Calm App

8) Any tips you’d like to share for those who are looking to venture into similar roles?

For those who’d like to venture out into bisdev / sales roles in a tech industry, perseverance and agility are key in this role. When it comes to successful sales, you have to be a good listener and address your client’s needs, not just selling anything to their face without understanding them in the first place.

9) Finally, what is the one quote you always live by?

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord not for men.” - Colossians 3:23
